There's a couple good fires' worth ready on the deck
And a short stack covered up if we need more dry wood.
The truck's at the top of the hill, in as open a spot as we have on these acres.
The boxes of greens and garlic and onions are covered.
Warm blankets have been pulled from the closet.
The tub's full of "flush water"
There's a reminder to stay out of the basement freezer.
The masonry heater is ready to go
with enough kindling to get things started.
And should things start falling, we'll cut our way free.
The gas stove is set
and there are plenty of periodicals to catch up on.
Most importantly, the pantry is stocked.
Snow and ice in the South? Bring it on.
I was hoping that you had enough booze to last through the worst of it. At least you have the essentials covered. Stay warm.
ReplyDeleteBen
We're covered, Ben. At least in the short run. Then it's into the moonshine - a serious last resort.
ReplyDeleteGood hearing from you, bud! Hope the family is doing well.
You got a while to go yet. We're still getting hit hard in sc. Still have power though and the Olympics. Add a roaring fire - Not a bad way to spend the day with the family.
ReplyDeleteThe bar on that saw is just big enough to get into trouble with. I like your style!
ReplyDeleteSix inches of snow and the sleet's just now starting, Joel. Should be an interesting evening. Perfect sink into the couch weather. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteIndeed it is, DJ. Just big enough. :-)
I was worried sick but your last photo set my mind at ease. Take care Mike!
ReplyDeleteRohan! So wonderful to hear from you! It's been too long. Sorry to have missed you on your whirlwind tour through the States. Don't know how you managed all of that. Hope all is well with you now that you're settled back home.
ReplyDeleteOh, and yes. We're prepared. Thanks for worrying about us. :-)
Looks like you're ready to be comfortably snowed in. We recently moved into a new house and one of my first orders of business was pulling out the gas logs out of the fireplace to convert back to wood burning. I didn't just cap the gas line however... I installed a gas log lighter which saves on kindling and gets things going a bit easier and faster. By the way, I have that book, and it has always been a favorite because it refers to Smallmouth Bass as "cool water" fish... which is exactly what they are... existing somewhere in between the coldwater trout and their true warmwater cousins. Stay warm, my friend!
ReplyDeleteI do not like ice at all -- so damaging. Hope you all get thru to the other side without much difficulty.
ReplyDeleteNothing like a real fire to warm the soul as well as the body, Jay. Gas logs just aren't the same. We'll stay toasty.
ReplyDeleteSo far, so good Nancy. Six inches of snow and Round 2, the freezy stuff, on the way. Thanks for the wishes.
The way I look at it, Mike, is a man is only challenged if he is un-prepared to meet his troubles head on. In your case, being pro-active makes a lot more sense than being re-active.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, Mel. And being prepared for something is a good way to keep it from happening. It never rains when I bring the umbrella, just in case. It always does when I don't.
ReplyDeleteIt must be really rough on you Mike. Meanwhile it's in the 50s and 60s here in the snowy state of Colordo.
ReplyDeleteCrazy, Howard. Snow's going fast here now, though. And it'll be 70 on Friday. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteNot even a power blink over here, Mike. But like you, we were fully prepared. Today was spent putting everything back for the next time weather threatens a disruption.
ReplyDeleteNor a flicker here either, Cathy. I'm sure you and Tom would have had it under control just the same.
ReplyDeleteWe still need to get together again...
