Yeah, it's your lake, your boat, your domain.
But let's go. Let's see who's got it this fine Easter weekend.
My fly rod against your spinning tackle.
Best fish wins.
Oh crap! Nice start. |
But I finish well enough to be in the arguement. |
And there are some things we can agree on. |
So we call it a draw and enjoy our time together on the lake.
That's how it should be.
Thanks, my friend, for putting up with my fly fishing fetish.
You're a good man...
...for a spin boy.
Admonishment: Do not imbibe and boat. Bad. Bad. Imbibe and enjoy the view from the dock. Good.

Newcastle? Big Fish? Everybody wins!
ReplyDeleteAmen to that, Clif. Amen.
ReplyDeleteI think you both managed to win in the friend department. Cheers! *(On the dock, of course.)
ReplyDeleteYou couldn't be more correct, Erin. At least from my perspective. Cheers back at ya.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, Mike. These friendly competitions bring out the best fishing. Next challenge for your spin casting buddy should be on some skinny backwoods pocket water where you will definitively have the advantage.
ReplyDeleteNice bass, I have to admit those are pretty spinning reels too. Wooden grips?
ReplyDeleteAs far as the fish go it's a draw. They are both great.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a root beer.
Newcastle. A little dark for South Padre... but we might have to split a sixer. See you next week, fly boy!
ReplyDeleteGood point, Dean. He pretty much toasted me in overall numbers as he was able to get deep on the points and cast 2-3 times as far. My best fish did come from the back of a tight cove. My territory.
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty, Kevin, and that prompted the picture. Wood grips they were. Nice hardware. He'd have nothing less.
Root beer's good too, BT. For the road.
A little lighter will be just fine, Chris. And I'm sure lookin' forward to them Texan redfish. Big time. See ya there.
Hi mike, nice fish. What fly did you use to catch that nice bass.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Loften. I caught him on my favorite big black popper - an H&H Lures Bayou Master, size 2. Or maybe it was a white one. I don't recall.
ReplyDeleteThat's the one thing I miss about not fishing lakes and ponds around here. Not the competition or the trash bass, the sitting back and having a couple of beers.
ReplyDeleteIt would be in a canoe, no motor. That's legal, isn't it? Or do I just want it to be.
Very nice work, Mike, on the bass. Nothing to be ashamed of for sure. You accepted the challenge and can hold your head high with that fish!
ReplyDeleteI don't fish still water much either, Ken, but the brewski sure makes it appealing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mel. Every time I fish it's a challenge.
Great fish, sounds like a great trip!
ReplyDeleteA great trip indeed, Mud. We spend a number of holiday weekends with these good friends at their lake cottage and it's always a joy. Fish or no.
ReplyDeleteWell played. Way to go making us fly guys look like serious contenders.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jay. i tried my best.
ReplyDeleteI saw the Newcastle and forgot that there was some pride at stake...looks like you both won to me.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great way to spend a weekend...friends, fish, and beer.
Cheers!
