My Boots

A day on the stream. A day on the pitch.
Storm trooper brogans. Ballet slippers.

Four pounds of Schoeller®-dynatec high performance abrasion-resistant mesh panels and Vibram sole
Eight ounces of Ultrathin Pittards 80 SD Lite Leather and eCell cushioning
Carbide chipped, zinc plated Hardbite Star Cleat Studs
Molded PU scimitar firm ground-hugging traction

Built to survive. Built to fly.
Built, both, to keep me boot-side down through slick runs and hard challenges.

Simms. Puma. G4s. Cellerators.
Drying side by side
While I lie on the couch, barefooted, recovering from their wearing
Recovering so that I can go out and do it again.

A day on the stream. A day on the pitch.
Me and my boots.

Note: Under the category of Things You Might Not Know About Mike, my other recreational passion is soccer. Fūtbol. The beautiful game - though it may not look quite so beautiful now that I'm in my late fifties. But I'm still running around like some crazy kid - with an emphasis on the crazy - and hope to continue for a while longer. That is, when I'm not fishin'.

  1. Nice to learn more about you. Much can be learned by what a man (or woman) wears on the feet. :)

  2. Running around crazy sounds about right. Nice to have some boots that can keep up...

  3. These boots are made for walking and that's just what they'll do...

  4. I've always thought footwear is somewhat the same as bookshelves, in showing a person's character. Beautiful piece, Mike...you're made of good stuff, you and your boots.

  5. I think Nancy and Erin are right. Footwear tells a lot. And I admit to being a bit of a shoes horse. Well, more boots than shoes. The right tool for every job... like fly rods.

Sean, my boots can handle anything this old dude can throw at them. With ease.

Howard, I picture you in Go-Go boots now. It's not a pretty picture.

  6. Sorry Mike, that just what popped into my head...

  7. Oh wait, I forgot. You, a shoe horse...are you a girly man?

  8. Very nice mike. I played all through high school and on into college but it would be an ugly thing if I laced them up now. My 6yr old however is well on her way. I'll stick with the boots with the felt not the grass grabbers.

  9. When I was in college there was a guy in his fifties, bald, overweight, who'd show up at the gym for pickup basketball games. Slow as hell but somehow he always managed to get open and he could shoot the lights out. Frustrated all of us whippersnappers to no end. Didn't take long to figure out that we needed to show up with four and get him on our team.

Now I just wish I could BE that old guy giving game to the youngsters.
