Rejected

I’m devastated. I’ve been rejected.

One of my favorite magazines, Wildlife in North Carolina, has just dealt me a humbling blow. Annually, they hold a photography contest and invite readers to submit photos taken around our beautiful state. Winning shots in several categories - including birds, plants, wildlife behavior, wild places and outdoor recreation – have been selected and will be printed in the January edition.

I submitted a half-dozen. None will appear in January.

With the exception of the mushrooms above, shot in my back woods, the pictures I submitted have graced posts here already. As there has been precious little fishing to report about lately, a situation soon to be remedied, I thought I’d repeat the pics in celebration of their submission. I hope you don't mind the review.

The good news is that there will be some seriously beautiful work published in January. Something on the order of seven thousand pictures were submitted and the winners should be simply outstanding. Come late December, find a newsstand and take a look. You will not regret it.

Even if none are mine.

The lily pad one is the best in my opinion.

They must have some pretty good pictures if these didn't make the cut. Do share if you can when they are published.

Joel, I haven't heard the phrase "the mushrooms are amazing" since sometime in the late sixties. Thanks for the flashback!

Mike - Great pictures, and great blog. This one reminded me of the man who entered ten puns in the pun contest thinking that surly he would at least place, but no pun in ten did.
